Bayer Leverkusen ease past Dusseldorf

Bayer Leverkusen booked their place in the DFB-Pokal final with a 4-0 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf on Tuesday night. Goals from Nadiem Amiri, Lucas Alario, Moussa Diaby and Kerem Demirbay sealed the victory for the Bundesliga high-flyers.

Historic achievement for Leverkusen

The win takes Leverkusen to their first DFB-Pokal final since 2009, and it keeps their hopes of a league and cup double alive. They currently sit second in the Bundesliga, just two points behind Bayern Munich.

Leverkusen started the game brightly and took the lead after just 12 minutes. Amiri fired them ahead from close range after good work from Diaby down the left.

Dusseldorf tried to respond but Leverkusen were in control. Alario doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark with a header from a corner.

Diaby made it 3-0 after the break with a fine individual goal. He picked up the ball on the right, drove into the box and finished past Florian Kastenmeier.

Demirbay added the fourth in the closing stages from the penalty spot after Dusseldorf's Andre Hoffmann had handled in the box.

Conclusion

Leverkusen were too strong for Dusseldorf on the night and they thoroughly deserved their victory. They will now face either RB Leipzig or Bayern Munich in the final on May 25.
