In a low-scoring thriller, Punjab Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by four runs in Match 53 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, May 8.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Punjab Kings struggled to get going as they lost wickets at regular intervals. However, Liam Livingstone's brilliant 32 off 19 balls helped them post a respectable total of 135/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
In reply, Kolkata Knight Riders also found themselves in trouble early on as they lost their top order cheaply. Andre Russell and Sunil Narine tried to revive the chase with a 54-run partnership, but Russell's dismissal in the 17th over put a dent in their hopes.
Despite a late surge by Pat Cummins, Kolkata Knight Riders fell short by four runs, with Arshdeep Singh bowling a brilliant last over to secure the victory for Punjab Kings.
With this win, Punjab Kings moved up to sixth place in the IPL 2023 standings, while Kolkata Knight Riders remained in ninth place.
